In January we transitioned Jax out of his crib into a toddler bed. We also got him another dresser and moved his crib and changing table into the new baby room right next door to his room and across the hall from ours. The transition was kind of a struggle the first few days as he didn't want to sleep in his new bed. We kept both the crib and his toddler bed in his room for the first two days and found that to be no help because he was just confused at to which one he wanted to sleep in. We have been so spoiled with how easily Jaxon has always went to bed so Donnie and I just didn't know what to do.
On the third night we decided to just take the crib down and move it into Quentin's room and close the door. Out of sight, out of mind.
He wouldn’t sleep on the correct end of the bed though
(the side with the rails)- and only cried for a few min when we left. Then he
just stayed awake in his bed forever. Donnie checked on him about 45 min later
and he was just sitting up in bed leaning against the wall with the blanket
over his head. ( who knows) And then he finally fell asleep at the foot
of the bed. I woke up at 1am to go to the bathroom and went to check on him and
as I’m walking into his room my foot hits something- yep it’s a person. Jax was
sleeping in the middle of his room on the floor all wrapped up in his blanket.
I have no clue if he fell out or what but it didn’t seem to be bothering him. I
picked him up and put him back in bed and he woke up and sat up and said
“water”, so I went and got him some water, he took a drink and laid back down
and went to sleep. Thankfully he was still in his bed when I got up that
morning. We ended up having to turn his bed around because he would only sleep with his head at the wrong end of the bed so we just switched it so the head board was on the side he likes to sleep on. Weirdo. I felt like we had a newborn
again but one that we can try to reason with! It only took about 5 days and then it was smooth sailing and now he loves his big boy bed!
