SO, this week we FINALLY said goodbye to the pacifier! Jax has only used it to sleep for a really long time now and wasn't allowed to have it outside of going to bed. But he LOVES it. He kisses it and says bye to paci before putting it on his pillow. He gets soo excited to get it at night and nap time. So we have been pretty much enabling him for forever now because we didn't know how to take his "crack" (as we call it) away. He had been waking up at night for quite a while as well and would make us get up and help him look for it when he couldn't find it and that was getting a little tiresome. I know he can sleep without it because he hasn't had it at daycare since he was an infant and he naps perfectly fine there everyday, it was just being strong enough to do it. Honestly, I thought we were going to have a lot more kickback than we did, otherwise we probably would have took it away a long time ago. On Monday, at bedtime he went to bed and was looking for it and said "paci?" and looked at Donnie and I. Stay strong, I was thinking and I just said paci went bye bye because paci's are only for babies and you're a big boy now. AND THAT WAS IT. He got into bed and went to sleep. No crying or waking up that night. We were flabbergasted that it was that easy and thought it was too good to be true. The next day at nap time he asked for paci again and I said the same thing and so he refused to take a nap and didn't so I got a little worried that he wouldn't nap anymore at home. But then he went to bed great Tuesday night again and has napped great Wednesday and today. After that, he hasn't asked about it once. Whew, what a stresser off our plate as we've been talking for months about how to do it. Now we know- just take it away and that's that. My advice is take away the paci before they can say the word paci. Then you don't feel so mean when they really want to suck on their crack a little more. We are a little nervous about giving one to Quentin and haven't yet but if we do, I know we'll take it away a lot sooner than 2 next time around. But I am so proud of Jax for taking it like a trooper!
